Norlan vs ChatGPT, Claude and Copilot

A general assistant answers the person asking. Norlan answers from the machine.

ChatGPT, Claude and Copilot are excellent at language and know nothing about your K4 relay. Norlan keeps what your team worked out on each machine and answers from it, with the page and the thread it came from.

False rejects after a format change

Rejecting good packs again since first thing. Third time this month, always after a format change.

@R. Ortega you had this one in Munich in March. Was it the belt or the program?

Transcript · @Norlan I am standing in front of the MD-3000. Static weighing is spot on, but it drifts as soon as the line runs. What has been done here before?

Norlan · 08:27

On this model the belt slackens after a format change and the fault comes back within the hour if the K4 relay is not reseated. Munich hit the same thing in March; recalibrating without re-tensioning did not hold.

A general assistant remembers a conversation. Norlan remembers the machine.

When ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot is the right choice

Writing an email, summarising a report, translating a manual, or a one-off question that does not depend on your plant's history. They are the best tools there are for that, and nothing here asks you to give them up.

Use both

Product direction

If your company has standardised on ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot, Norlan can be the knowledge it reads from: the machine's record, its citations and your permissions. You keep the assistant; you gain the memory.

Norlan and ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot: questions we hear

Can't we just upload the manuals to a project?

You would get answers from the manuals. You would not get what the manual does not say — what your team learned on that machine last March, which setting held after the format change, which unit behaves differently from the rest of its model.

Our IT only allows Copilot. Is that a problem?

It is the conversation we would rather have early. Norlan is built so the assistant your company allows can read from it, with the machine's record and your permissions, instead of asking you to add a second assistant.

Do you train on our data?

No. Norlan is hosted in the EU, each customer's data is isolated, and operational data is not used to train external models.

Bring the question you would ask your assistant. See what the machine's record answers.

We start with the operation — which failures repeat, who gets called when something breaks, what the CMMS does not hold — and then show how Norlan would work on it.

What we usually cover

  • How an incident flows today, from detection to fix
  • Where the conversation actually happens: the systems, or calls and WhatsApp
  • What takes longer — the diagnosis, or getting the right people and information together
  • How much of what a technician knows is written down, and what happens when they are away
  • Which tools are really in play: CMMS, ERP, mobile, paper
  • What a pilot would measure, and how

Pick a time that suits the plant. Bring one failure that keeps coming back.

The call is with the people who build the product, with no qualification call first. Norlan is pre-general-availability and shaped with maintenance teams in pharma and food processing.
